X campaign audience research checklist

Before planning an X campaign, check who you want to reach, which follower audience you collected, how complete the scan is and what supports your audience-fit claims. Revealed can help examine profiles, bios, geography and overlap. Use this checklist to produce a clear research brief; measure campaign response separately.

The answer in full

An X campaign audience research checklist helps a team decide whether it has enough evidence to plan a test. Start with a defined audience and campaign goal, then document the account researched, scan date and collection coverage. Revealed's Free plan includes local scans, profile exploration, search and raw CSV export. Pro adds Bio Signals, geography and audience comparison, which can help examine whether the collected profiles match your intended audience. For every conclusion, keep supporting profile context and note what the data cannot establish. A role mentioned in a bio is self-reported, a location may be missing, and follower overlap does not measure attention. Finish the brief by defining the campaign outcome you will measure outside the follower scan. This separates an audience-fit hypothesis from a performance result. If coverage or interpretation is uncertain, make that uncertainty visible before allocating effort. The checklist supports campaign planning; it does not predict reach, conversions or return on spend.

Research checklist

Review each item before acting on the audience data. Record anything unresolved in your research notes.

  • The target audience is defined

Write a specific role, interest or market you want to reach. Define what would count as relevant profile evidence before reading the results.

  • The source and coverage are recorded

Record the account handle, scan date, collected profile count and whether the scan is partial. Explain why this account is a useful audience to research.

  • Bio themes have supporting context

Review recurring language in Pro Bio Signals and inspect example profiles. Keep uncertain terms separate instead of assigning every match to a firm segment.

  • Geographic assumptions are checked

If the campaign depends on a market, inspect Pro geography and note missing or ambiguous locations. Profile locations are self-reported, not verified residence.

  • Overlap has a defined purpose

If comparing two accounts with Pro, say whether shared followers or potential new audience is relevant to the campaign. Do not describe overlap as unique campaign reach.

  • The campaign outcome is measurable

Choose an outcome such as relevant site visits or enquiries and identify where it will be measured. Revealed's follower analysis is not that performance measurement.

What the finished brief should contain

A useful brief contains the target audience, researched account, dated evidence, unresolved questions and proposed campaign test. Write the conclusion as a hypothesis supported by the collected profiles, rather than a promise about response.

For example, a team could hypothesise that a technical explainer suits an audience whose sampled bios describe engineering roles. This is an illustrative planning scenario, not a measured result. The campaign still needs a defined success metric.

When to pause the decision

Pause when the source audience does not represent your intended market, the scan is too limited to support the conclusion or a key term has multiple meanings. Collect or review more evidence before expanding the campaign.

A smaller, documented test can be appropriate when evidence is incomplete. Keep the uncertainty in the brief so the next reviewer can understand why the test was chosen.

What to keep in mind

  • Collected followers may not represent the people who see or engage with posts.
  • Roles, interests and locations are self-reported profile signals.
  • Campaign performance, reach and conversions require separate measurement.
FAQ

Common questions

01Can I use this checklist on Free?

You can scan, search, explore profiles and export raw CSV on Free. Bio Signals, geography and audience comparison require Pro.

02Does an audience fit check predict campaign results?

No. It helps define an informed hypothesis. Actual response needs to be measured during the campaign.

03Does Revealed upload the followers I scan?

No. Scans run in your own browser and the audience data (profiles, bios, analytics and exports) stays in Chrome extension storage on your device. Revealed’s servers only handle your account, plan and billing.
